An exciting new chapter is beginning at Budock Vean Hotel, and we’re looking for an exceptional General Manager to help lead it.
Set within 65 acres on the banks of Cornwall’s beautiful Helford River, Budock Vean is a hotel with a wonderful history, a loyal team and guests who return time and again.
But we’re also looking firmly to the future.
Over the next few years, Budock Vean will enter an exciting period of investment and development, including the creation of a new spa, planned to open in spring/summer 2028.
This represents an important next step for the hotel, building on everything our guests already love while creating an even stronger luxury leisure and wellness experience for the future.
We’re looking for a General Manager who is excited by the opportunity to be part of that journey.
You’ll lead the hotel day to day, develop a brilliant and engaged team, drive commercial performance and exceptional guest experiences, while also playing an important role in preparing the hotel for its next chapter.
This isn’t simply a role maintaining what already exists. It’s an opportunity to help shape what Budock Vean becomes.
- What we’re looking for
- An experienced hotel leader with a strong understanding of full-service hotel operations
- A visible, hands-on leader who enjoys being around guests and the team
- Strong commercial awareness, with confidence around budgets, payroll, revenue and profitability
- A genuine passion for developing people and building strong departmental leadership
- A calm, practical approach and the ability to make good decisions
- High standards with excellent attention to detail
- A natural communicator who builds trust across all levels of the business
- Experience of leading a hotel through change, development or significant investment would be particularly valuable
- An interest in luxury hospitality, wellness and spa would be advantageous
Your responsibilities will include
- Lead the hotel operation, ensuring consistently high standards across accommodation, food and beverage, spa, leisure and the wider guest experience.
- Be a visible and hands-on General Manager, building relationships with guests and the team and maintaining a strong presence throughout the hotel.
- Create an exceptional guest experience, understanding what our guests value while continually looking for opportunities to improve and evolve what we offer.
- Build, develop and retain a brilliant team, creating a positive working environment where people understand what is expected of them, feel supported and are encouraged to develop.
- Develop strong departmental leaders, giving managers the confidence, accountability and support to lead their own areas effectively.
- Drive the commercial performance of the hotel, with responsibility for revenue, profitability, payroll, budgets and effective cost control.
- Identify opportunities to grow revenue and in-house spend across bedrooms, food and beverage, spa, leisure and experiences, without compromising the quality of the guest experience.
- Work closely with the wider group teams, including Operations, Sales, Marketing, Revenue and Finance, to maximise the performance and positioning of Budock Vean.
- Play an active role in preparing for the new spa opening in spring/summer 2028, helping to ensure the hotel, operation, guest journey and team are ready to make the most of this significant investment.
- Help shape the future direction of Budock Vean, recognising and protecting what makes the hotel special while identifying where we can evolve and improve.
- Maintain the hotel to a high standard, working proactively with maintenance and wider teams to identify priorities for repair, refurbishment and improvement.
- Take ownership of guest feedback and complaints, resolving issues thoughtfully while using feedback to identify opportunities for longer-term improvement.
- Ensure strong operational and financial controls, with accurate reporting and clear understanding of the hotel's performance.
- Maintain excellent standards of compliance, including health and safety, fire safety, food safety and other statutory and company requirements.
- Lead through change positively and practically, ensuring improvements are well considered, properly communicated and sustainable rather than short-term fixes.
