About the role: We are seeking to recruit a new Credit Control and Collections Team Lead to proactively manage the credit control and collection team. This is an exciting new role and will be key to help develop and roll out the credit and collections strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the credit control and collection team from a people leadership perspective, including employee performance, training & development.
- The post holder must have a hands-on approach across all operational areas, taking responsibility for day-to-day projects and activities.
- Create and implement the credit strategy to ensure effectiveness and maximise collections whilst minimising bad debts.
- Manage debt and credit ledgers for all sectors of Electricity accounts including setting and driving monthly cash collection targets.
- Report on commercial and domestic debtor days, including implementing processes to reduce debtor days, bad debts review and write downs.
- Manage escalated queries or disputes to satisfactory conclusion, including liaising with the Commercial, billing and Customer Service teams to resolve any outstanding queries.
- Manage the process for referral of overdue accounts for legal action and manage the legal process.
- Management and participation in various credit risk reviews, projects and initiatives, including regulatory change, audit / regulatory inspections and issue remediation as needed.
- Manage cash allocation to the accounts, including unpaid direct debits, refunds and direct debits runs.
- Develop strategic partnerships across the Budget Energy management team, working closely with other internal departments to promote a culture of communication, continuous improvement and teamwork.
- Representation of Budget Energy in wider organisation process improvement projects including actively working with IT to improve business processes and systems.
- Credit control and collection ambassador for ERP to help future proof the business.
- Ad hoc duties as required.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate is an experienced credit professional with at least five years credit management experience, including a minimum of three years leading and developing people in a fast-paced environment. They bring strong technical capability, with advanced Microsoft Office skills, proven experience using ERP systems, and the ability to leverage data to inform decisions. A confident communicator and effective manager, they can coach teams, influence stakeholders, and handle challenging situations with composure. Customer-focused and commercially aware, they demonstrate strong negotiation skills, sound judgment, and the ability to balance risk with service, ensuring credit operations run efficiently and professionally.
