We are looking for an organized and proactive Conveyancing Assistant to join our busy property team, supporting both commercial and residential conveyancing matters. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast‑paced legal environment, delivering excellent client service while developing their expertise in property law.

This role will be based in Peterborough on a full‑time (37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:30) permanent contract.

Role

You will provide high‑quality administrative and legal support to our lawyers, helping to ensure transactions progress smoothly and efficiently from instruction through to post‑completion. The role combines diary and document management, client liaison, and hands‑on conveyancing support across a broad range of matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day support to lawyers and team members, ensuring excellent client service at all times
  • Manage diaries, emails, and communications to keep matters progressing efficiently
  • Prepare, format, and process legal documentation and correspondence
  • Handle incoming calls and queries professionally and promptly
  • Maintain accurate client records and update the document management system
  • Support billing processes, including preparing invoices and credit notes
  • Assist with file audits and ensure compliance with AML, SRA, and internal procedures
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing post for the department
  • Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders to support matter progression
  • Provide administrative support across teams as required, including holiday cover

Conveyancing Duties

  • Assist with a range of transactions, including freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, remortgages, and transfers of equity
  • Submit property searches (e.g. local authority, drainage and water, environmental)
  • Support the progression of files to ensure deadlines and service levels are met
  • Carry out post‑completion work, including:
    • SDLT/LTT submissions and payments (HMRC/WRA)
    • Preparing and submitting Land Registry applications
    • Managing Land Registry requisitions and queries
    • Reviewing completed registrations
  • Liaise proactively with clients, agents, lenders, and other third parties to maintain momentum on transactions

About You

  • Previous experience in a conveyancing assistant or legal support role is desirable
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a busy environment
  • Confident communicator with a professional and proactive approach
  • Good IT skills and experience using a case management system
