We are recruiting for an experienced Paralegal who has 12-18 months experience in Private Family law to join our busy and growing Family department in Nottingham for a full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:30) permanent role.
Being a Paralegal:
As a Paralegal, you are a key member of the legal team whose work can range from proactive interaction with clients, document production and legal drafting, administrative and legal secretarial tasks to legal research. Ideally, the successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to develop strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Working under close supervision and direction of an experienced lawyer, the successful candidate will support the department and the firm in the following ways:
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of how the business works.
- Draft correspondence/documents for review by relevant legal professionals.
- Use IT systems and other resources to effectively improve efficiency, quality and service levels.
- Actively raise the profile of the firm within the chosen marketplace and conduct oneself in business and personal life in a manner which does not adversely affect the reputation of the firm.
- Deliver their individual fee target and meet agreed Key Performance Indicators with minimal supervision.
- Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and build appropriate relationships with clients.
- Adhere to agreed quality procedures and management systems.
- Continually develop technical and non-technical skills to meet client and firm requirements and demonstrate continuous improvement in all areas of work.
- Occasional travel required for business development, meetings and training purposes.
- Any other duties and responsibilities express and implied which arise from the nature and character of the post. The job description may be changed on notice.
The successful candidate will deliver on agreed cases in accordance with the firm’s standards, procedures, and behavioural statements and support the wider team as required across our UK offices, although the candidate will be based at our Nottingham office.
Requirements of the successful Paralegal
Qualifications- Ideally relevant professional qualifications and/or relevant industry experience.
- In the absence of the above, a strong academic record.
- A strong legal understanding of Family Law, with 12 months practical experience in a law firm.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Appropriate empathic qualities given the nature of the work.
- Working knowledge of case management systems (CMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Expected familiarity and ability to use Court Portal and Court documents.
- Professional business-like appearance and conduct.
- A strong team player with a motivational hands-on approach with the ability to identify and deliver what is required.
- Uses initiative, drives, plans and organises own time and workload to successfully meet deadlines and can autonomously prioritise their caseload.
- A measured and rational approach to problem solving.
- Ability to deliver under pressure without compromising on accuracy and to maintain a high level of performance in assigned areas of work.
- Flexibility to respond quickly and effectively.
- Deals confidently and diplomatically with clients and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrates integrity and congruence when dealing with people.
