We are recruiting for a Court of Protection Paralegal to join our busy and growing Private Client department in Peterborough for a full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:30) permanent role. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high‑performing, forward‑thinking and collaborative Private Client practice, renowned for delivering exceptional advice to a sophisticated client base. As a Court of Protection Paralegal, you will be a key member of the Private Client team, supporting the delivery and development of our Court of Protection offering. The role will involve proactive client contact, Attorneyship and Deputyship matter support, document production, legal drafting, administrative assistance, compliance monitoring, and effective management of client and matter information. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, commercial awareness, and the ability to build trusted relationships with vulnerable clients, their families, attorneys, deputies, and professional colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of Court of Protection, Attorneyship and Deputyship matters, helping to ensure that client work is progressed efficiently, accurately and in line with agreed service standards.
  • Assist with the management of fiscal and compliance risk on Attorneyship matters, including maintaining accurate records, diarising key dates, monitoring deadlines and escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Provide continuity of support for Court of Protection clients, ensuring clients and their families receive a consistent, responsive and empathetic service.
  • Support the growth of the firm’s Court of Protection offering by contributing to efficient matter handling, client service improvements and the development of internal processes.
  • Monitor and support compliance with internal and client service level agreements, ensuring deadlines, tasks and follow-up actions are recorded and progressed in a timely manner.
  • Provide practical support to colleagues helping to maintain continuity of matter progress and client service.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of how the business works.
  • Draft correspondence/documents for review by relevant legal professionals.
  • Use IT systems and other resources to effectively improve efficiency, quality and service levels.
  • Actively raise the profile of the firm within the chosen marketplace and conduct oneself in business and personal life in a manner which does not adversely affect the reputation of the firm.
  • Deliver their individual fee target and meet agreed Key Performance Indicators with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and build appropriate relationships with clients.
  • Adhere to agreed quality procedures and management systems.
  • Continually develop technical and non-technical skills to meet client and firm requirements and demonstrate continuous improvement in all areas of work.
  • Occasional travel required for business development, meetings and training purposes and to include travelling to meet the support needs of vulnerable clients.

Qualifications

  • Ideally relevant professional qualifications and/or relevant industry experience. In the absence of the above, a strong academic record.

Skills / Experience

  • A basic legal understanding of Private Client work, with an interest in or experience of Court of Protection, Attorneyship or Deputyship matters.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Appropriate empathic qualities given the nature of the work.
  • Working knowledge of case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ideally experience in Private Client and/or Court of Protection work, including supporting vulnerable clients, attorneys, deputies or professional fiduciary matters.
