We are recruiting for a Paralegal to join our busy Private Client department in Peterborough for a full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday 09:00 – 17:30) permanent role.
As a Paralegal, you are a key member of the legal team whose work can range from proactive interaction with clients, document production and legal drafting, administrative and legal secretarial tasks to legal research. Ideally, the successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to develop strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.
ResponsibilitiesWorking under the close supervision and guidance of an experienced lawyer, the successful candidate will provide essential support to the team through the following:
- Adhering to structured team workflows and procedures to ensure consistency, efficiency, and excellence in client service delivery.
- Managing and supporting a mixed desk case load of Estate Planning and Estate Administration matters.
- Operating within established departmental processes and systems to maintain high standards of compliance and quality.
- Demonstrating the ability to work to strict and urgent deadlines whilst maintaining efficiency and accuracy across a demanding caseload.
- Exhibiting meticulous attention to detail when drafting documents and correspondence from instructions.
- Preparing correspondence and documentation for review by supervising lawyers.
- Effectively using IT systems and available resources to enhance efficiency, quality, and client service levels.
- Delivering their individual fee target and meeting agreed Key Performance Indicators with minimal supervision.
- Ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and building appropriate relationships with clients.
- Continually developing technical and non-technical skills to meet client and firm requirements.
- Occasional travel required for business development, meetings and training purposes.
Qualifications:
- Ideally relevant professional qualifications and/or relevant industry experience. In the absence of the above, a strong academic record.
Skills / Experience:
- A foundational understanding of Private Client law and a genuine interest in developing expertise in this area.
- Excellent organisational skills and a process-driven approach to managing tasks efficiently.
- Strong time management skills and the resilience to work effectively under pressure.
- The flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and respond promptly to urgent instructions.
- A collaborative team player attitude with a willingness to support colleagues.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The empathy and sensitivity needed to support clients during often challenging personal circumstances.
- Good working knowledge of case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ideally, previous experience within a Private Client department or a similar legal environment.
- Demonstrate professionalism and integrity, maintaining the firm’s reputation through appropriate conduct at all times.
- Be a strong team player, working collaboratively and adopting a hands-on approach to motivate others while delivering what is required.
- Take initiative, effectively plan and organise their own time and workload, and autonomously prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
- Approach challenges with a measured and rational mindset, solving problems efficiently and effectively.
- Perform consistently under pressure without compromising on accuracy or quality of work.
- Show flexibility and the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities or urgent requirements.
- Communicate confidently and diplomatically with clients and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrate integrity and consistency in all interactions with colleagues, clients, and partners.
