Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessments, crisis support and evidence‑based interventions for learners.
  • Deliver personal support plans and provide guidance to students experiencing acute or chronic mental health difficulties.
  • Offer generic advice and information to university staff on matters concerning mental health and psychiatric conditions.
  • Maintain accurate case records, participate in supervision sessions and review case management with colleagues.
  • Deliver a high‑quality, customer‑focused service across all campus sites, including occasional travel to other campuses.
  • Support the delivery of mental‑health training and early‑intervention initiatives across BNU sites.
  • Comply with the Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity legislation and university policy.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and review of health‑support systems and processes as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in psychology, mental health nursing, counselling or a related field.
  • Relevant professional qualification/training in mental health (e.g., nursing with RMN / Community Psychiatric Nursing / Psychiatric/Mental Health Social Work).
  • Eligibility and active membership of the relevant professional body.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in mental‑health practice.
  • Knowledge of disabilities, safeguarding and mental‑health legislation (Mental Health Act 1983, Equality Act 2010, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Rights Act 1998, Data Protection Act 2018).
  • Experience in crisis management, safety planning, risk assessment and ongoing support for moderate to complex mental‑health cases.
  • Strong risk‑management skills, and ability to maintain professional boundaries with learners and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work autonomously while prioritising workloads.
  • Proficient IT skills (e.g., electronic case notes, reporting, and basic software applications).
  • Ability to deliver presentations and training to diverse audiences (learners, staff, carers, volunteers).
