Responsibilities

  • The post-holder will carry out diagnostic assessments with Buckinghamshire New University learners to identify students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs), including ADHD, providing essential information to enable the University to implement support and reasonable adjustments in a timely manner for our students and meet our duties under the Equality Act 2010.
  • Work closely with members of the Disability & Inclusion Services, particularly colleagues who deliver our programme of SpLD screening and support throughout the academic year.
  • Advise the university on suitable testing tools for purchase and assessment.
  • Keep up to date on best practice in assessment and Access Arrangements, including knowledge of all relevant JCQ regulations.
  • Carry out diagnostic assessments for specific learning difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD).
  • Analyse test results in accordance with current professional practice and complete written diagnostic reports within 10 working days of each assessment.
  • Stay up to date with professional development and requirements of funding bodies regarding diagnostic reports.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to improve service delivery, policy, and procedures relating to SpLD assessment and diagnosis.
  • Work with Disability & Inclusion Services to develop and deliver training for colleagues.
  • Assist in obtaining and acting on student feedback to refine services and maintain high levels of customer service.
  • Comply with applicable legislation (e.g., Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, Health & Safety, UKVI, Equality & Diversity).
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably required.

Person Specification / Qualifications

Education, Qualifications & Training

  • Postgraduate (Level 7) Qualification approved by SASC.
  • Current Assessment Practising Certificate in assessing SpLDs from a relevant professional association (e.g., PATOSS, Dyslexia Guild, British Dyslexia Association) or HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.
  • Relevant professional body membership (e.g., PATOSS).

Knowledge & Experience

  • Delivering an excellent customer experience.
  • Experience in conducting specialist diagnostic assessments with knowledge of recommendations for assessment adjustments in Higher Education.
  • Understanding of how to support and improve the skills of neurodiverse individuals.
  • Confidence in undertaking assessments in-person and online.
  • Thorough knowledge of the impact of SpLDs on HE students.
  • Understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and inclusive teaching practice in HE.
  • Able to work with accuracy under pressure to manage a busy caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of funding mechanisms for disability support in HE.

Skills

  • Digitally able and proficient in Microsoft tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.

Special Requirements

  • Ability to travel between campuses.
