The School of Health and Social Care Professions is excited to invite applications for two Lecturer/ Senior Lecturers in Occupational Therapy.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to the delivery of our newly launched Occupational Therapy programmes, including the BSc and apprenticeship routes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to brand new programmes and lead the development and coordination of occupational therapy placements.

The post holder will work collaboratively with our practice partners, support the Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy and have the opportunity to use your knowledge and experience to design, develop, innovate, and deliver clinical and theoretical teaching that supports learning and student attainment. The role requires someone with up-to-date knowledge and understanding of contemporary occupational therapy practice, drive, commitment, and a flair for sharing those attributes with our ambitious and highly capable students, as well as experience teaching in higher education or similar.

Job Purpose:

  • Teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach, delivering a first-class student experience.
  • Undertake research, professional practice and enterprise activity as outlined within the BNU Academic Framework
  • Be a team-player and contribute to the wider work of the School and University
  • Practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • To design and deliver high quality, innovative and challenging learning experiences, using current theory and practice together in lively debate.
  • To undertake associated activities in connection with the courses taught including module leadership, curriculum development, personal tutoring, recruitment, assessment, review and evaluation.
  • To contribute to the student experience – demonstrating an awareness of the need for ‘customer focus’ in respect of resolving issues.
  • To conduct research and scholarly activity of relevance to the lecturing role and / or professional practice and aligns own research with teaching and learning.
  • To engage with business and professional networks to promote teaching and learning and research in a professional context.
  • To contribute to open days, school, college and partnership links and the promotional work of the department.
  • To support students in supervising placements, learning in practice, internships and work-related activities.
  • To deliver pastoral care and project supervision of students.
  • To plan and deliver the curriculum using appropriate media, including the use of IT.
  • To provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students, which promotes improvement of performance.
  • To engage in professional development activities (e.g. CPD, attendance at conferences) relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
  • To maintain and foster the high reputation of the University in practice partner settings.
  • Any other such reasonable duties as required by the Head of School / Associate Head of School.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
