Graduate Teaching Associate – Computer Science. Full Time – Permanent – High Wycombe. Salary – £33,482 – £37,174.

We are currently looking for a Graduate Teaching Associate in Data Science. You will be situated in the School of Creative and Digital Industries. The role supports teaching and learning through the delivery of modules in conjunction with the Course Leader. Typical duties include tutorial class teaching; personal tutorial support; provision of feedback to students; course work assessment and examination marking. You will work toward a fee waived PhD within the school in an area of your choosing, and after successful completion you will be promoted to Lecturer in the school.

Responsibilities

• Teach and support students by adopting a learner-centred approach and contribute to a first-class student experience.
• Contribute as part of the teaching team and to the wider work of the Department/School.
• Practice an inclusive approach and support building an inclusive university community where people can be themselves.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Act as a main point of contact for tutorial class teaching for one or more courses.
• Demonstrate enhancement activities in the delivery of courses (e.g., blended learning).
• With the Course Leader, design and prepare teaching materials within the overall module/course framework, including planning and delivering the curriculum using appropriate media.
• Undertake activities with the courses taught including personal tutoring; student recruitment; assessment, review and evaluation.
• Prepare standard materials and questions for discussion about the tutorial topic.
• Demonstrate techniques and how to use necessary equipment.
• Provide guidance on producing work at an appropriate academic level and preparation for examinations.
• Examination marking duties; marking of assignments, essays and exams using solutions provided by the course leader.
• Provide effective feedback, support and guidance to students to promote improvement of performance.
• Manage late submission of assignments and refer to the Course Leader if required.
• General administration of the tutorial process, including late submissions.
• Deliver an excellent customer service as demonstrated in student feedback; contribute to Open Days, school/college/partnership links and marketing/promotional work of the Department/School.
• Deliver pastoral care to, and supervision of, students.
• Engage in professional development activities relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
• Maintain and foster the high reputation of the University in practice partner settings.
• Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
• Any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School / Deputy Head of School.

Education, Qualifications & Training

• First Degree in a relevant field
• Working towards a relevant master’s degree
• Commitment to working towards and achieving a teaching qualification

Knowledge & Experience

• Adequate knowledge in discipline/field
• Specialist skills appropriate to the courses taught
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office software

Skills

• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with all stakeholders
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Ability to be flexible and respond to changing priorities in a busy environment
• Excellent people skills with the ability to build good working relationships with colleagues and external partners

Special Requirements

• A willingness and ability to work in off-site locations
• A willingness and ability to contribute to University Open Days (which may fall on Saturdays)
