Contract: Full Time (37 hours) – Fixed Term Contract (12 months)

Salary £33,951 – £37,694

Job Purpose

To use business and system analysis techniques to assist in the maintenance and development of systems through the development lifecycle (including design, build, testing, cutover and support). To analyse how well software, hardware and digital technologies fit the business needs of the University by documenting requirements for new systems and monitoring their effectiveness.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the Systems Management Team to support, maintain and develop a selection of systems and identify opportunities for business process optimisation.
  • Assess how well existing or new software, systems or hardware fit the University’s business needs as part of a project or standalone task.
  • Work with users at all levels to identify and document user requirements and produce specifications for new systems or services.
  • Participate in business process improvement, requirements gathering and solution design workshops.
  • Support work that is being undertaken to design a solution or business process.
  • Contribute to decision making on business process improvements and solution design based on analysis work.
  • Provide second‑level operational support to staff for University systems, ensuring Digital and Technical Services (DTS) SLAs are met.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and developers to maintain and develop existing systems, ensuring on‑time delivery, technical compatibility and user satisfaction.
  • Develop an in‑depth knowledge of end‑to‑end business processes and system functionality.
  • Co‑ordinate the gathering, cleansing and validation of data.
  • Prepare and deliver Unit Testing, Integrated System Testing (IST) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Prepare policy, procedure and process documentation as required.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training materials, including online self‑service modules and hard‑copy training.
  • Assist in the delivery of train‑the‑trainer and end‑user training for new systems or services as requested.
  • Contribute to and provide information for user groups to guide ongoing development of systems.
  • Ensure that all information is managed securely in accordance with University policies and legislation.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., Data Protection Act 2018, GDPR, Health and Safety, UKVI, Equality and Diversity).
  • Perform any other duties reasonably required.

Education, Qualifications & Training
  • Level 4 equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience and knowledge of business processes.
  • Experience of working on projects through the full lifecycle and resolving complex issues.
  • Experience of systems analysis and business analysis.
  • Exposure to the full development lifecycle of an IT solution.
  • Understanding of complex data, application and technology architectures.
  • Travel to remote sites as required.
Skills
  • Digitally able and proficient in Microsoft tools.
  • Excellent verbal communication, report writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed analytical skills.
