Overview

As the Head of the North Waste and Street Scene services, you will play a key role in delivering a critical front-line service that directly impacts our residents’ quality of life.

This is an excellent career opportunity in a high-profile role. You will be a highly visible and experienced senior leader from within the sector who can demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate a large front line In-House waste collection, street cleansing, grounds maintenance and fleet team, delivering cost-effective, high-quality services as well as transforming the service to meet the requirements of the new waste legislation.

About the role

This is a senior level post working within Neighbourhood Services, Communities Directorate reporting to the Neighbourhood Services Director. You will work with the four other Heads of Service in Neighbourhoods to help deliver the Councils priorities.

You will be responsible for managing a revenue budget of over £10 million pounds a year, securing nearly £2million pounds a year of income, delivering a rolling capital programme of over £5million pounds a year. Your leadership will help us reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency, and meet the needs of our growing and diverse communities.

Key requirements of the role

Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of innovative strategies for waste management, fleet maintenance, and transport services, aligning with local, national, and environmental sustainability goals.
Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operations of waste collection, recycling, street scene, and grounds maintenance and corporate fleet services, ensuring high performance, efficiency, and value for money
Performance Monitoring: Set clear KPIs, monitor service performance, and ensure continuous improvement across all areas of waste, fleet, and transport.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure all operations comply with regulatory requirements, including health and safety standards, environmental regulations, and vehicle maintenance obligations.
Budget Management: Oversee the budgeting and financial performance of the front line services ensuring they are delivered cost-effectively.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including residents, Councillors, senior officers, environmental bodies, and internal departments to ensure collaborative service delivery.
Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a multi-disciplinary team, promoting a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and innovation

Location

The service is based at the Councils In-House Depot at Pembroke Road Aylesbury.

Any-Desk:

As an any-desk worker, you ll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required. You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements.

Salary: Depending on level of experience up to £87,967 pa.

Flexible working arrangements will be considered.

The post is permanent contract.

About the Business Unit
