Buckingham Futures is working with a local authority in the Midlands who are seeking an Environmental Health Officer / Food Safety Officer for a 12-month assignment.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer (EHO) or Food Safety Officer to support the delivery of statutory food hygiene inspections across the borough on a temporary 12-month contract. The successful candidate will carry out a programme of inspections, including Category A, B, C, D, E, unrated, void, revisit, and compliant premises, in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice. Approximately 80 inspections are expected during the contract period. This is a flexible role, allowing officers to complete inspections in blocks; however, availability across the full 12-month period is essential as additional inspections may be assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct food hygiene inspections across a range of risk categories (A, B, C, D, E, unrated, void, and revisits)
  • Ensure all inspections comply with the Food Law Code of Practice.
  • Accurately assess hygiene standards and identify areas of non-compliance
  • Complete inspection reports and documentation to required standards.
  • Provide advice and guidance to food business operators to ensure compliance
  • Undertake follow-up and revisit inspections where required
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and outcomes

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health OR relevant food hygiene inspection qualification
  • Competence to undertake inspections at the required risk levels under the Food Law Code of Practice.
  • Proven experience carrying out food hygiene inspections (EHO or Food Safety Officer level)
  • Strong knowledge of food safety legislation and enforcement procedures
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
