This is a broad and interesting role offering the opportunity to work across a range of environmental protection and regulatory functions. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of environmental legislation and regulation and will be able to demonstrate relevant practical experience across a number of key areas. Particular areas of interest include:
- Contaminated land
- Air quality
- Part B environmental permitting
- Planning applications
Candidates do not need to have identical experience across all of these areas; however, they should have a strong environmental protection background and be able to demonstrate relevant experience in several of these technical disciplines. The role will involve working with businesses, developers, consultants, residents, planning professionals and other stakeholders, providing sound technical and regulatory advice and, where necessary, undertaking compliance and enforcement activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake environmental protection investigations and regulatory work in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Provide technical advice on a range of environmental protection matters to internal departments, businesses, developers, consultants and other stakeholders.
- Investigate complaints, incidents and potential breaches of environmental legislation, taking appropriate regulatory or enforcement action where required.
- Assess technical information and reports and provide clear, evidence-based environmental protection advice.
- Review planning applications and development proposals, identifying potential environmental impacts and providing appropriate consultation responses and recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with planning teams, developers, consultants and other professionals to ensure environmental protection considerations are appropriately addressed within the planning process.
- Carry out inspections, monitoring and compliance activities in relation to regulated premises and environmental issues.
- Maintain accurate records, prepare reports and produce professional correspondence and technical recommendations.
