Buckingham Futures is working with West London Council and looking for an experienced Private Sector Housing Standards Officer, HMO to join their proactive and high-performing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated housing professional seeking a varied and rewarding caseload, with a strong focus on improving housing standards and making a genuine impact across the private rented sector.
The successful candidate will play a key role across compliance, enforcement, and disrepair matters, combining site-based inspections with detailed case management and stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Investigating tenant complaints and undertaking property inspections
- Assessing housing conditions against HHSRS and the Decent Homes Standard
- Preparing and serving statutory notices and enforcement action where necessary
- Managing disrepair cases and producing detailed schedules of condition
- Supporting HMO licensing, inspections, and compliance activity
- Identifying empty properties and supporting initiatives to bring them back into use
- Working collaboratively with internal departments and external agencies to support housing improvement programmes.
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of HHSRS and housing enforcement legislation
- Previous experience within Private Sector Housing, disrepair, or compliance-focused roles
- A sound understanding of housing standards and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent communication, inspection, and case management skills
- A qualification in Environmental Health, such as a degree accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
- A degree or diploma in a related field, for example:
- Housing Studies
- Environmental Health
- Building Surveying
- Public Health
- Construction or Building Control
- Housing Management
