Buckingham Futures is recruiting a Private Sector Housing Manager to join a forward-thinking local authority in Essex on a permanent basis.
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a candidate with a proven track record in private sector housing, enforcement, and team management. You will play a pivotal role in shaping service delivery, improving housing conditions, and leading a highly capable team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction across private sector housing functions.
- Manage, support, and develop a high-performing housing team.
- Oversee service delivery, including enforcement, HMO licensing, and housing standards.
- Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet local housing needs.
- Manage budgets, resources, and service performance against key indicators.
- Represent the service at senior-level meetings, tribunals, and legal proceedings where required.
Requirements
- Extensive experience managing private sector housing or environmental health services.
- In-depth knowledge of housing legislation, particularly the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Proven ability to drive service transformation and improve performance.
- Experience managing budgets and contributing to strategic planning.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A relevant qualification in Environmental Health or Housing is desirable.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH) preferred.
