Buckingham Futures is recruiting a Private Sector Housing Manager to join a forward-thinking local authority in Essex on a permanent basis.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a candidate with a proven track record in private sector housing, enforcement, and team management. You will play a pivotal role in shaping service delivery, improving housing conditions, and leading a highly capable team.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and direction across private sector housing functions.
Manage, support, and develop a high-performing housing team.
Oversee service delivery, including enforcement, HMO licensing, and housing standards.
Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet local housing needs.
Manage budgets, resources, and service performance against key indicators.
Represent the service at senior-level meetings, tribunals, and legal proceedings where required.

Requirements

Extensive experience managing private sector housing or environmental health services.
In-depth knowledge of housing legislation, particularly the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Proven ability to drive service transformation and improve performance.
Experience managing budgets and contributing to strategic planning.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
A relevant qualification in Environmental Health or Housing is desirable.
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH) preferred.
