Our client, a local authority in East London serving a diverse and densely populated community, is seeking to appoint an experiencedFoodTeamLeaderto support the Environmental Health Manager in delivering high-qualityfoodsafety and hygiene services across the borough.

This role offers the chance to play a key part in protecting public health in a high-demand urban environment, wherefoodbusiness compliance and safety standards are of critical importance. The council\’s Environmental Health team works proactively with a wide range offoodestablishments—from small independent takeaways to large-scale manufacturers andfoodretail chains—ensuring legal compliance and promoting best practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Support:Assist the Environmental Health Manager with the day-to-day delivery offoodsafety services, contributing to strategic objectives and ensuring targets are met.
  • Staff Supervision:Provide guidance and line management to members of thefoodsafety team, supporting their development, ensuring consistency, and overseeing performance.
  • Case Management:Take ownership of a personal caseload involvingfoodhygiene inspections, complaint investigations,foodsampling, and enforcement actions in line with current legislation and theFoodLaw Code of Practice.
  • Project Involvement:Support or lead on specific projects, such asfoodhygiene rating scheme (FHRS) improvement initiatives, allergen awareness campaigns, or outbreak investigations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:Build relationships with local businesses, community groups, and internal departments to encourage compliance and promote public health outcomes.

Essential Requirements:

To be considered for this opportunity, your CV must clearly demonstrate:

  • EHORB Registration(or equivalent qualification) enabling you to act as a competentfoodsafety officer under theFoodLaw Code of Practice.
  • Aminimum of 2 years\’ recent experienceconductingfoodhygiene inspections and enforcement work within a local authority.
  • Strong working knowledge of currentfoodsafety legislation, including HACCP, FHRS, and allergen regulations.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff, including allocating workloads, monitoring performance, and offering professional guidance.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-pressure environment.
