Good morning. Buckingham Futures are currently partnering with a local authority in the South West of England to recruit an experienced Environmental Protection Officer. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated professional to step into a dynamic and varied role, combining frontline EP work with team supervision and support responsibilities. The initial contract is for four months, with a strong likelihood of extension based on performance and ongoing service needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing expert input on planning application consultations from an Environmental Protection standpoint
- Investigating and resolving statutory nuisance complaints, including noise, odour, light pollution, and other environmental concerns
- Carrying out general Environmental Protection duties as required by the service
- Supervising and supporting a small team of Technical Officers—offering case support, guidance, and mentoring
- Working closely with internal departments, external agencies, and members of the public to ensure regulatory compliance and deliver excellent service
- Maintaining thorough records and producing high-quality professional reports to support enforcement action or planning decisions
Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent qualification)
- Solid understanding of legislation such as the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Noise Act 1996, and relevant planning laws
- Confident handling a wide range of EP matters, particularly statutory nuisance and planning consultations
- Experience supervising or mentoring others is an advantage
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional approach to stakeholder management
