About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Building Control Inspector to help deliver a safe, compliant built environment across a diverse range of building projects (non-high-rise). You’ll review plans, carry out site inspections, enforce regulations, and provide expert technical advice to applicants, contractors, and stakeholders. This role is central to driving safety, quality, and compliance under the latest Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Reviewing plans and applications, negotiating compliance with Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act.
  • Carrying out statutory and routine on-site inspections and providing guidance to ensure safe, compliant construction.
  • Leading on enforcement actions, identifying unauthorised works, preparing reports, and acting as an expert witness when required.
  • Responding to dangerous structure incidents and coordinating corrective actions.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic records, compliance reports, and documentation.
  • Providing expert advice to applicants, developers, architects, and internal teams.
  • Supporting service improvements, income generation, and partnership working with neighbouring authorities.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Registered with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • HNC/HND in Construction or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong working knowledge of Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and enforcement procedures.
  • Experience in plan checking, site inspections, and regulatory compliance.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • Degree in Building Control/Surveying.
  • Membership of RICS, CABE, CIOB.
  • Dangerous Structures training certificate.
  • LABC Level 6 Fire Safety validation.

Skills & Expertise

  • Ability to interpret complex plans, codes, and technical documents.
  • Strong knowledge of construction, fire safety, means of escape, acoustics, and energy efficiency.
  • Skilled in risk assessment and dealing with dangerous structures.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions, manage workload, and work independently on site.
  • Proficient with MS Office and Building Control systems (Civica, Tascomi, Uniform, Assure, Arcus).
