Buckingham Futures are working with a local authority in North West London to support their Food Safety Team with the delivery of outsourced food hygiene and food standards inspections, outside IR35. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Food Safety Officer or Environmental Health Practitioner to contribute to a high-volume inspection programme, working across a diverse range of food premises and playing a key role in maintaining public health and food safety standards.
We are seeking immediately available professionals who are confident working independently, delivering high-quality inspections, and producing robust, compliant reporting in line with local authority requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out food hygiene and food standards inspections across a wide range of food premises.
- Assess compliance in line with relevant legislation, statutory codes of practice, and local authority procedures.
- Identify contraventions and determine appropriate enforcement action, including preparation of warning letters and formal reports.
- Produce clear, accurate, and detailed inspection reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain high-quality case records suitable for audit and QA review.
- Follow defined inspection protocols, including risk-based assessment frameworks.
- Manage daily inspection schedules efficiently, ensuring productivity and accuracy.
- Liaise professionally with business owners and duty holders during inspections.
- Proven experience in food safety enforcement and inspections within a local authority or regulatory environment.
- Strong understanding of food hygiene legislation, food standards, and enforcement procedures.
- Experience producing structured inspection reports and enforcement documentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage a full inspection workload.
- Strong communication skills and sound professional judgement in enforcement situations.
- Confidence working to deadlines within a fast-paced delivery programme.
- Environmental Health degree (or equivalent).
- Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection / Food Competency qualification.
- Current CPD and up-to-date knowledge of food safety legislation.
- Full inspection list expected to support efficient scheduling (subject to confirmation).
- Mix of announced and unannounced inspections depending on programme requirements.
- No-access procedures and void definitions to be confirmed at programme start.
- Prompt reporting expected following each inspection.
- QA processes and templates to be aligned at onboarding stage.
- Opportunity for remote completion of reports following site visits (subject to client process).
