We are seeking an experienced Business Development Director to lead the acquisition of large corporate clients (typically £25m+ turnover) across Scotland, the Central Belt, and Northern Ireland. This is a senior, high-impact origination role focused on winning whole-bank switchers, building strategic corporate relationships, and delivering complex, multi-product banking solutions. This is a pure new business role, focused on identifying, approaching, and converting established corporates with sophisticated banking needs, including significant borrowing, cash management, and transactional requirements.
You will operate at senior level with CFOs, Finance Directors, and Treasurers, acting as a trusted advisor while partnering closely with credit, product, and structuring teams to execute technically complex transactions and deliver full-bank relationship wins. In addition to your own origination responsibilities, you will play a key role in ensuring the wider regional team delivers against its new business targets. This is not a line management position, but you will provide leadership, direction, and deal support to help drive collective performance.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading origination of large corporate clients (£25m+ turnover) across Scotland, the Central Belt, and Northern Ireland
- Targeting and winning mid-to-large corporates with complex, multi-product banking requirements
- Driving a disciplined outbound origination strategy focused on proactive market penetration
- Structuring and delivering technical transactions across corporate lending, working capital, and broader banking solutions
- Building and converting a strong pipeline of high-value, strategically important clients
- Acting as a senior market presence to support wider regional origination performance and help ensure team targets are achieved (without direct line management responsibility)
- Partnering with credit, structuring, and product teams to deliver tailored, bankable solutions
- Leading competitive deal execution in high-stakes, multi-banked environments
- Identifying market opportunities and displacing incumbent banking relationships
What we’re looking for:
- You will be a proven corporate banking originator with the technical depth and commercial confidence to win and structure complex deals at scale.
- Essential experience:
- Strong track record in corporate banking origination and new client acquisition
- Demonstrable success in winning large corporate clients (£25m+ turnover)
- Experience delivering bank switchers and competitor displacement deals
- Background in structuring and executing complex, credit-backed transactions
- Proven ability to operate in a pure outbound, target-driven environment
Location: This role can be based in Edinburgh or Glasgow, with hybrid working and regular travel across Scotland, the Central Belt, and Northern Ireland.
