Nestled in the quiet, leafy suburb of Bearsden in North Glasgow, Buchanan Lodge Care Home is a thoughtfully converted former convent, blending historic charm with modern comforts. We provide Residential, Nursing, Respite, and Dementia care for 38 residents, and we also support an on-site Nursery, providing meals for up to 70 children. We’re looking for a talented Chef to join our kitchen team, supporting the Head Chef to create seasonal menus and leading our team in a fast-paced, rewarding environment.
Contract details:
- £13.52 per hour
- 40 hours per week, daytime shifts – no unsociable late nights
- 5.6 weeks annual leave (full-time)

The role:
As Chef, your cooking will do more than fill plates; it will bring comfort, nourishment, and joy. Working alongside the Head Chef, you will:
- Support the creation of seasonal, nutritious menus for residents and children.
- Lead the kitchen team day-to-day, ensuring smooth operations and high standards of hygiene.
- Mentor and develop trainee chefs and kitchen assistants.
- Prepare and serve meals to meet dietary requirements, including IDDSI and specialist diets (training provided).
- Manage stock, maintain kitchen organisation, and uphold health & safety standards.
- Opportunity to work in a supportive, fast-paced kitchen serving both residents and children.
- Team development – help mentor trainee chefs and kitchen assistants.
What we’re looking for:
- A relevant culinary qualification or equivalent experience.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and understanding of food safety.
- Strong team leadership skills, with a passion for developing others.
- Experience in a care or hospitality kitchen is beneficial but not essential.
- Knowledge of IDDSI and dietary requirements is an advantage (training will be provided).
