We are working on an exclusive basis with one of the most highly regarded Real Estate Finance and Structured Debt teams in the market to identify a strong associate at the 3–5+ PQE level. This is a genuine growth hire driven by an active mandate to expand the practice, not a replacement following continued strong deal flow and a clear investment in building out the team.
The Team
This is a market-leading Real Estate Finance practice sitting within one of London's most prestigious Magic Circle platforms. The team is substantial in scale, approximately 45 lawyers supported by 16 trainees, with 13 partners globally, of whom 6 specialise in Real Estate Finance and are consistently recognised as one of the leading practices of its kind in the UK and internationally.
Chambers describes the team as "multifaceted and market-leading," regularly working with leading banks and financial institutions on a variety of matters including mezzanine finance, development finance and CMBS, and particularly proficient in cross-border and multi-jurisdictional transactions. Clients praise the team for being "highly motivated in trying to give a good result" with "capacity to advise on all aspects of financings" and "an excellent ability to handle complex transactions and find solutions that work for all parties."
The team is most well regarded for its CMBS and pan-European work, and its recent transaction record reflects the breadth and scale of the practice — including advising on an approximately £622 million loan in connection with the Leadenhall Building in London and a £809 million senior term loan for the acquisition of a premium City of London office development, as well as pan-European refinancing's and cross-border CMBS issuances for major global financial institutions.
The practice covers the full spectrum of real estate financing products — bilateral loans, syndicated loans, sub-participated debt, mezzanine loans, development finance, CMBS/RMBS and other capital markets products — and for large-scale, multidisciplinary transactions offers exceptional capacity to lead the deal by combining real estate, corporate, finance, capital markets, tax, restructuring and dispute resolution expertise.
The wider platform is especially well regarded for its market-leading real estate debt offering, with a dominant private funds group that is well known for debt, real asset and upper mid-market private equity fund formation work.
Why This Role?
This is a team actively investing in its future, with a clear mandate to grow and a recent track record of successfully integrating lateral hires at senior associate level. Associates benefit from strong partner access, a collaborative culture, and exposure to some of the most complex and high-profile real estate finance transactions in the market. The working environment is described as balanced relative to some US platform competitors, roughly 50% working from home over a two-week period with a competitive bonus structure built around a target of approximately 1,800 hours.
Compensation is highly competitive: approximately £150,000 at NQ level, rising to approximately £188,000 at 5 PQE, with a strong bonus structure on top.
What They Are Looking For
The team is targeting candidates ideally at 4+ PQE, though strong candidates at 3 PQE will be considered where capability is clear. Real estate finance experience is essential; this is a technical role and candidates must have a genuine grounding in REF transactions. Beyond that, the search is deliberately flexible: while backgrounds from Magic Circle, elite US or strong international firms are preferred, the team is genuinely open-minded about firm background where the quality of candidate is high.
This is a quality-focused search rather than a box-ticking exercise, and the team has demonstrated its willingness to move quickly for the right profile.
If you are a Real Estate Finance associate with strong technical credentials and are open to a confidential conversation about joining one of the leading practices in the market, please get in touch directly.
