A leading global law firm is seeking to expand its competition litigation practice with the hire of a specialist associate. The team is widely recognised as one of the UK’s foremost defence-side competition litigation groups, with a particularly strong reputation for collective proceedings, complex multi-jurisdictional damages actions and carriage disputes before the Competition Appeal Tribunal.

The wider Competition, Regulation and Trade group operates on a genuinely international basis, with lawyers across Europe, Asia and Australia. The team advises a diverse client base, including Fortune and FTSE companies, regulators and national governments, and covers the full spectrum of contentious and non-contentious competition and trade matters.
Scope of Work
- Private enforcement and appeals in the High Court and CAT
- Follow-on and standalone damages claims
- Collective proceedings before the CAT
- Cartel and behavioural investigations
- Merger control and antitrust advisory
- State aid, public procurement, WTO and international trade matters
Growth Hire
This is a team expansion, not a replacement role. A small number of candidates are already in process. The team is focused on securing top-end quality, rather than filling an urgent gap. The firm is looking for specialist competition litigators, rather than general disputes lawyers, with strong UK competition experience and the ability to take on meaningful responsibility.
Candidate Profile
- 3–8 PQE, with a preference for top-end mid-level or senior associates
- Strong academic background (2:1 or equivalent; exams passed first time)
- Hands-on competition litigation experience in the High Court and/or CAT
- Experience of CAT collective actions is highly desirable
- Proactive, self-starting and comfortable managing complex workstreams
- Strong interpersonal skills and an interest in mentoring junior lawyers
The Role Will Involve
- Defending large-scale damages actions in the High Court and CAT
- Managing multi-jurisdictional competition claims
- Acting as lead lawyer on appropriate matters with partner oversight
- Supervising, delegating and mentoring junior associates and trainees
- Advising on complex technical competition issues
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Contributing to business development, training and wider firm initiatives
Recent Matters Include
- Advising Meta on a proposed collective action alleging abuse of dominance
- Acting for Google in multiple CAT and European damages claims
- Advising Google on a collective action relating to ad tech tools
- Defending Amazon in collective proceedings relating to the Buy Box
- Acting as European coordinating counsel in Trucks cartel follow-on claims
- Advising financial institutions on FX litigation following Commission findings
Working Pattern & Hours
Hybrid working model with approximately 60% of time in the office. Target hours of 1,800 annually. This role offers exposure to some of the most significant competition litigation currently before the UK courts, within a globally recognised team known for its technical strength, advocacy capability and high-profile client base.
