About the Role
The Senior Procurement Consultant will support the delivery of procurement and supply chain services across complex rail and infrastructure programmes. The role involves working closely with clients to develop procurement strategies, shape contracting approaches, manage tender processes, support supplier engagement, and contribute to collaborative procurement models that improve project outcomes.
The team works with organisations at different stages of the project lifecycle, from early-stage planning and market engagement through to delivery, contract management, and performance optimisation. There are also opportunities to support work beyond the UK, with increasing activity across North America.
What you’ll do
- Procurement strategy & route-to-market: Develop procurement strategies, route-to-market options, packaging and contracting approaches aligned to objectives, market conditions and procurement requirements.
- End-to-end procurement delivery: Lead and support the full procurement lifecycle from market engagement and tender planning through to evaluation, negotiation and contract award.
- Governance, compliance & defensibility: Ensure procurement activity is fair, transparent and defensible, aligned to governance frameworks, relevant legislation (including Procurement Act 2023) and professional standards.
- Supplier and contract management: Support post-award supplier and contract management, including mobilisation, performance tracking, governance, risk management and continuous improvement.
- Stakeholders, quality and growth: Build strong relationships with client stakeholders, technical/commercial/legal teams and suppliers. Produce high-quality written outputs (strategies, appraisals, evaluation reports, briefing/board papers and recommendations). Contribute to business development (proposals, presentations, case studies) and mentor junior colleagues.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with strong procurement and supply chain experience, ideally within rail, transport or major infrastructure environments.
- Essential: Minimum 7–8 years’ relevant experience. Experience supporting procurement or supply chain activity on complex projects or programmes. Strong understanding of procurement strategy, route-to-market options and contracting approaches. End-to-end procurement lifecycle experience, including tendering, evaluation, negotiation and contract award. Strong stakeholder management skills and confident client-facing communication. Ability to produce clear, well-structured procurement documentation and recommendations. Understanding of procurement governance, fairness, transparency and compliance.
