About Us

Founded in 1983, BTG Pactual is now the largest investment bank in Latin America. We're committed to a future where investing is dynamic and straightforward, which is why we're undergoing a digitization and expansion process across various fronts. Our entrepreneurial mindset allows us to empathize with our clients and understand their challenges, leading to swift, autonomous, and bureaucracy-free solutions. Renowned for our excellence, flexibility, and versatility, we serve clients from our offices in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, the United States, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, Luxembourg and Saudi Arabia.

The Role

BTG Pactual is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to join its Technology team in London. Joining an established international team of professionals, the Infrastructure Specialist will be based in London, whilst operating in a global environment, maintaining regular communication with offices worldwide. The role is hands-on in nature and demands a strong technical grounding across corporate server infrastructure, VMware, Dell server hardware, and Pure storage, complemented by the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve complex issues effectively.

A core component of the position is ownership of the firm's disaster recovery capability — from the design and implementation of DR solutions, including Zerto replication and failover, through to active participation in DR testing, the development and upkeep of runbooks, and the ongoing refinement of recovery procedures to ensure RTO and RPO targets are consistently met. The successful candidate will also bring demonstrable experience applying AI-powered tools to drive efficiency, whether in building automation scripts, developing infrastructure-as-code templates, or streamlining day-to-day operational workflows.

This is a temp to perm opportunity for an initial period of 12 months, on a Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) basis. Due to ongoing growth within our Technology Team, the intent will be for this position to transition into a permanent role upon the successful completion of the initial 12 month period, subject to performance and business requirements. This is currently a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week in the London office. The successful candidate must have the flexibility to increase office attendance to four or five days per week when business needs, project demands, or critical incidents require on-site presence. As the company continues to evolve, office attendance expectations may be adjusted over time to align with business needs.

Role Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate infrastructure tasks across global environments, acting as an escalation point for complex technical issues.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and technical teams across the business; manage vendor relationships and escalate hardware/software issues as required.
  • Design and implement high-availability architectures across on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring minimal downtime and service continuity.
  • Build VMware hosts; troubleshoot ESX host and SAN-related issues, and manage guest operating system provisioning.
  • Administer Microsoft Windows Server environments (Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange, GPO, DNS/DHCP, Print Servers, NTFS permissions, iSCSI SANs).
  • Plan, execute, and validate cloud migration projects, moving on-premises workloads to AWS with minimal disruption; design and manage hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises, AWS, and Azure.
  • Implement and maintain AWS security best practices, including network segmentation, IAM policies, and encryption.
  • Leverage AI-powered coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to develop and optimise automation scripts, PowerShell/Python code, and infrastructure-as-code templates; use AI tools to accelerate troubleshooting and streamline routine operations.
  • Configure server monitoring alerts and thresholds; configure and monitor VM backups on Rubrik; execute daily monitoring checks and ensure storage/backup procedures function correctly.
  • Design and build servers’ architecture considering High Availability and DR; carry out capacity planning; develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans.
  • Automate daily operational tasks; define and apply GPOs; control access permissions and privileges; manage Office 365 configurations.
  • Participate in an on-call support rota to provide after-hours and weekend coverage for critical infrastructure incidents; execute planned production environment changes outside of standard business hours.

Technical Skills

  • VMware vSphere ESXi 8+: host provisioning, command line admin, storage provisioning, Veeam; excellent understanding of virtual infrastructure and its link to the physical environment.
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019–2025: Active Directory, Entra ID, Print Servers, GPO, DNS/DHCP, User Management, NTFS file permissions, Rubrik and Veeam Backup Exec, Dell servers, RAID, Security, Internal/Public Key Certification infrastructure, SANs – iSCSI Storage.
  • Experience configuring high-performance / high-availability SQL Servers in both virtual and physical environments.
  • Fully conversant with disaster recovery solutions and technologies; Zerto replication and failover experience.
  • AWS IaaS experience: EC2, VPC, EBS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch and related services; design and implementation of Azure and AWS cloud infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS).
  • Experience operating in hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises data centres, AWS, and Azure (highly desirable).
  • Infrastructure-as-code mindset: PowerShell/Python, Configuration Management (DSC/Ansible/Chef/Puppet).
  • Citrix CCA or equivalent level experience; SolarWinds Orion configuration and monitoring; Azure cloud services management.
  • Management of backup and restore applications such as Veeam; ability to troubleshoot and maintain server hardware; escalate hardware problems to manufacturer as required.

Professional Qualifications

  • Certified in one or more of the following: MCSA Windows Server 2016+, MCITP Enterprise Administrator, or MCITP Server Administrator.
  • AWS certifications, such as AWS Solutions Architect or AWS SysOps Administrator, are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code, is required.

Experience & Behavioural Competencies

  • 10+ years’ professional experience in a financial services technical role.
  • Team player with excellent consultative and communication skills; proven ability to work effectively with management, staff, vendors, and consultants.
  • Ability to work independently to meet goals and objectives with minimal supervision; strong problem-solving, prioritisation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, responding to critical requests calmly and efficiently; manages own workload effectively, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proactive mindset towards infrastructure resilience, with a focus on continuous improvement of HA and DR capabilities.
  • Enthusiasm for adopting AI-assisted development tools with a demonstrated ability to integrate them into daily infrastructure workflows to drive efficiency and innovation.
