Are you an experienced Accounts Assistant looking for a broader role where you can take ownership across the finance function? BTG Recruitment is working with a successful and growing Newark-based business that is looking for a Senior Accounts Assistant to join its finance team during an exciting period of change. Following a recent acquisition, the business is evolving its finance processes and needs an experienced, hands-on accounts professional to provide additional support over the next six months.

This is a varied role that will give you exposure across the finance function rather than limiting you to one area.

The role

  • Working as part of a small finance team, your responsibilities will include:
  • Purchase ledger and accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable and sales ledger
  • Bank reconciliations
  • General ledger accounting
  • Supporting month-end processes
  • Potential involvement with payroll
  • Helping to document and transition finance processes
  • Taking ownership of accounting tasks as responsibilities evolve

What are we looking for?

We're looking for an accounts all-rounder with a strong grounding in day-to-day finance. You might currently be working as a Senior Accounts Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer or in a similar broad accounting role. You’ll ideally have:

  • Experience across purchase and sales ledger
  • Strong bank reconciliation experience
  • Exposure to general ledger and month-end accounting
  • Experience using Sage 50 or a similar accounting system
  • Good Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a hands-on approach
  • The confidence to pick up new responsibilities and work through changing processes

Experience of working through an acquisition, finance transition or process change would be useful, but isn’t essential. AAT qualifications would be welcomed, although practical accounting experience is more important than qualifications.

Why consider this opportunity?

You’ll be joining a growing business at an interesting point in its development, giving you the opportunity to broaden your experience and play an important part in how the finance function operates going forward. The position is initially a 6-month contract, but there is the potential for the opportunity to become permanent as the longer-term finance structure develops.

Salary: £32,000 to £37,000

Location: Newark, Nottinghamshire

Contract: Initial 6 months
