A growing, owner-managed business is looking for a hands-on Accounts Assistant to take ownership of its day-to-day finance function. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and being at the heart of a business where finance genuinely makes an impact.
The Role – Accounts Assistant
As the Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for managing the core finance processes across multiple entities, working closely with external accountants while taking ownership of the day-to-day accounting. This is a broad role that will give you exposure across the full finance function, not just transactional work.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing purchase and sales ledgers
- Performing bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
- Supporting month-end processes (journals, accruals, prepayments)
- Assisting with VAT and working alongside external accountants
- Managing accounts payable and receivable
- Processing payroll journals and payments
- Monitoring and managing cash flow
- Handling intercompany transactions
- Reconciling card payments
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting
- Identifying and improving processes, including cleaning up existing accounts
What We’re Looking For
- AAT Level 3 or Level 4 qualified (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in a broad Accounts Assistant or Assistant Accountant role
- Confident working up to trial balance
- Strong experience with reconciliations, journals, and ledgers
- Comfortable working independently in a small team
- Someone proactive who enjoys improving processes
