Job Description
Head of Finance / Financial Controller
Lincoln | £75,000β£80,000 | Predominantly office-based
Are you a hands-on Financial Controller or Head of Finance who enjoys working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial SME where you can genuinely influence how the business develops?
We are working with a successful and growing Lincoln-based group with turnover of approximately £30m to recruit a senior finance leader to take ownership of the finance function across a group of companies.
This is a broad, commercially important role managing a finance team of four and working closely with senior stakeholders across a diverse group spanning manufacturing, distribution, retail and property.
The business has grown significantly and continues to evolve, creating an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys bringing structure, improving controls and getting underneath the numbers.
The role
You will take overall responsibility for the finance function, including:
- Leading and developing a small finance team
- Financial reporting across a group of companies
- Cash flow forecasting and working capital management
- Oversight of management accounts and balance sheet controls
- Stock and inventory accounting across a significant stockholding business
- Improving financial processes, controls and reporting
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and commercial decision-making
- Managing financial information across multiple systems
- Working closely with senior management as the group continues to grow and change
A particularly important part of the role will be ensuring strong financial controls around stock. The business is also developing bonded and customs warehouse operations, so previous exposure to bonded warehousing, excise duty or other regulated stock environments would be highly advantageous.
The person
We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller, Head of Finance or Finance Director who is comfortable operating in an SME environment.
You are likely to have:
- Strong experience within a manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, retail or other stockholding business
- Excellent stock and inventory accounting knowledge
- Strong cash flow management experience
- Experience managing and developing a finance team
- Exposure to multiple companies or entities
- A track record of improving processes and financial controls
- Strong Excel skills
- A pragmatic, hands-on approach
Experience of bonded warehouses, customs, excise-controlled products or other highly regulated stock environments would be particularly attractive, although it is not essential.
Why consider it?
This is an opportunity to join a growing business where finance has a genuine voice.
You will have an established team beneath you, significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape the finance function while remaining close enough to the detail to see the impact of the improvements you make.
It would particularly suit someone who enjoys the pace and variety of an SME and wants a role where they can make a visible difference rather than becoming another layer within a large corporate finance structure.
Salary: £75,000β£80,000
Location: Lincoln
Working pattern: Predominantly office-based
If you are an experienced finance leader looking for a genuinely hands-on and influential role within a growing Lincolnshire business, we would be keen to speak with you.
