The business is looking for a commercially minded Purchasing Manager or Purchasing Director who can take ownership of product sourcing, supplier relationships, stock availability, pricing and range development. You will work closely with the directors and have genuine influence over what products are brought to market, how they are sourced and how the range evolves. This is not an indirect procurement role. You must understand physical products, finished goods and direct imports. Experience sourcing from China and the Far East is essential.

The role will involve:

  • Selecting new products and identifying opportunities to improve the product range.
  • Managing supplier relationships, pricing, margins and stock availability.
  • Signing off stock purchase orders and commercial buying decisions.
  • Working with product, engineering, quality and marketing teams to bring new products to market.
  • Reviewing quality control, warranty and product evaluation reports.
  • Deciding which products should be added, retained or removed from the range.
  • Keeping close to the market to ensure products remain competitive.

The person you will need:

  • Senior purchasing, buying or procurement experience within a product-led business.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant products, ideally tools, power tools, workshop equipment, machinery, garage equipment, automotive, DIY or industrial products.
  • Proven experience sourcing finished goods from China and the Far East.
  • Experience managing buyers or a purchasing team.
  • Strong commercial awareness around pricing, margin, stock and supplier performance.
  • The confidence to make decisions and influence at director level.
  • A hands-on, entrepreneurial approach.

Package:

  • Salary from £70,000, with no ceiling for the right person.
  • Bonus.
  • Healthcare.
  • Pension.
  • Life assurance.
  • On-site parking.
  • Daily lunch option.
  • 20 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Based in Epping, Essex, 5 days per week.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior purchasing professional who wants genuine ownership, direct access to decision-makers and the chance to shape the product range of a successful, established business.
