Are you a confident, commercially minded finance professional ready to take full ownership of the finance function in a fast-growing business? We are working with a dynamic SME that has seen exceptional growth, with turnover now exceeding £5 million. Due to this rapid expansion, they are now looking to appoint a capable and driven Finance Manager / Financial Controller to lead the finance function and act as a key business partner to the senior leadership team. This is a hands-on role where you will play a pivotal part in shaping financial processes, driving performance, and helping steer the company through its next stage of growth.
What You’ll Be Doing at the Finance Manager
- Manage day-to-day finance operations including cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting
- Prepare monthly management accounts and statutory financial statements
- Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax, and Companies House requirements
- Lead the year-end audit process and liaise with external auditors and advisors
- Oversee payroll (in-house or via external providers)
- Deliver insightful financial analysis to support strategic and operational decisions
- Strengthen internal controls and drive improvements across systems and processes
- Supervise and support a Finance Assistant
- Present financial reporting to the senior leadership team
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in a similar role (Financial Controller or Finance Manager) within an SME
- Excellent technical knowledge of financial reporting and statutory compliance
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to influence commercial decisions
- High volume transaction experience (750–1,000 invoices/month)
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in accounting software ideally Xero
- Self-starter with initiative, ownership mindset, and strong organisational skills
- Experience in transport, logistics, or distribution is an advantage—but not essential
