This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-established, successful product-led business supplying a broad range of tools, machinery, workshop equipment, automotive, DIY and industrial products. The company is looking for someone who understands the full buying cycle, from supplier sourcing and negotiation through to stock availability, shipping, landed cost, compliance, quality and new product introduction. This is not an indirect procurement role. You will need experience buying physical products for resale, ideally from China, the Far East or other overseas suppliers.

The role involves reporting directly to the Director, taking ownership of a defined product portfolio and playing a key role in ensuring the business has the right products, at the right price, at the right time. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing stock levels, sales run rates, supplier lead times and MOQs.
  • Forecasting demand and maintaining strong stock availability.
  • Raising purchase orders and managing supplier confirmations.
  • Liaising with suppliers and freight agents to keep shipments on track.
  • Reviewing proforma invoices, FOB pricing, landed costs and import tariff codes.
  • Negotiating cost savings and commercial terms with suppliers.
  • Managing product lifecycle, including new lines, replacements and obsolete stock.
  • Working with technical teams on product testing, CE certification and compliance.
  • Managing quality issues, warranty claims and supplier performance.
  • Supporting new product sourcing, supplier benchmarking and product selection.
  • Working with marketing on packaging, artwork, product manuals, pricing and positioning.

You will be a strong fit if you have worked in a product-led buying role and understand the commercial detail behind sourcing, importing and managing finished goods. Relevant product backgrounds could include:

  • Tools
  • Power tools
  • Hand tools
  • Workshop equipment
  • Garage equipment
  • Machinery
  • Compressors
  • Generators
  • Air tools
  • Automotive products
  • DIY products
  • Industrial or trade products

You will need:

  • Experience as a Buyer, Senior Buyer, Category Buyer, Product Buyer, Sourcing Buyer or similar.
  • A background buying finished goods for resale.
  • Experience working with overseas suppliers, ideally China or the Far East.
  • Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • A good understanding of stock, lead times, MOQs, shipping and landed costs.
  • Commercial awareness around pricing, margins and product performance.
  • A hands-on, practical approach and the confidence to work closely with senior leadership.
  • Experience with CE certification, product compliance, warranty claims or quality control would be highly beneficial.

Package includes a salary of £50,000 to £70,000, depending on experience, bonus, healthcare, company pension, life assurance, on-site parking, daily lunch option, and 20 days holiday plus bank holidays. This is a great opportunity for a commercially minded Buyer or Senior Buyer who wants a broad, hands-on role with real influence over product range, supplier performance, stock availability and commercial results.
