Understand product costs? Know your way around a bill of materials? Put that experience to work in a role where you can influence manufacturing performance.
An established manufacturing business is looking for an Assistant Cost Accountant to support product costing, investigate production variances and help managers understand what drives their costs.
Working closely with an experienced Cost Accountant and the Financial Controller, you'll deepen your manufacturing finance expertise, contribute to an upcoming SAP implementation and have scope to progress into a Cost Accountant role.
What you'll be doing Maintaining bills of materials and keeping standard product costs accurate.
Updating the monthly costing model and reviewing product contribution margins.
Investigating material and labour variances, working with production managers to understand the causes.
Supporting purchase price variance analysis and weekly performance reporting.
Reviewing costing data and supporting its accuracy during the SAP implementation.
This is a role for someone who wants to get close to operations, ask questions and understand why actual performance differs from expectations.
What we're looking for
Practical costing knowledge is the priority.
You'll ideally have experience of standard costing, bills of materials and manufacturing variance analysis, alongside a sound understanding of how costs feed into the P&L.
You might currently be an Assistant Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, Assistant Accountant or Assistant Management Accountant with costing responsibilities.
You'll also need the confidence to discuss the figures with production managers, investigate discrepancies and explain your findings clearly.
AAT or further accountancy study would be welcome, but your relevant costing experience and accounting knowledge will carry more weight than qualification status.
SAP experience would also be useful.
What's on offer £40,000–£45,000 , with the upper end available for someone bringing strong, relevant costing experience.
Study support to help you continue your professional development.
Close support from experienced manufacturing finance colleagues.
Hands-on involvement in an SAP implementation.
Potential to develop into a Cost Accountant position.
You'll work on site in Burton upon Trent five days a week during probation.
After successfully completing probation and demonstrating capability, there is scope for one day working from home each week.
