The Role BTG Pactual is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to join its Technology team in London. The role is hands‑on and requires a strong technical grounding across corporate server infrastructure, VMware, Dell server hardware, and Pure storage. The incumbent will own the firm's disaster recovery capability, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and resolve complex issues. Experience applying AI‑powered tools to drive efficiency is also required. This is a temp‑to‑perm opportunity for an initial period of 12 months on a Fixed‑Term Contract basis, with the intention of transitioning to a permanent role upon successful completion. The role is hybrid: a minimum of three days per week in the London office, with flexibility to increase attendance to four or five days when business needs demand on‑site presence.
Role Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate infrastructure tasks across global environments, acting as an escalation point for complex technical issues
- Liaise with stakeholders and technical teams across the business; manage vendor relationships and escalations as required
- Design and implement high‑availability architectures across on‑premises and cloud environments
- Build VMware hosts; troubleshoot ESX host and SAN‑related issues, and manage guest operating system provisioning
- Administer Microsoft Windows Server environments (Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange, GPO, DNS/DHCP, Print Servers, NTFS permissions, iSCSI SANs)
- Plan, execute, and validate cloud migration projects, moving on‑premises workloads to AWS with minimal disruption; design and manage hybrid cloud environments spanning on‑premises, AWS, and Azure
- Implement and maintain AWS security best practices, including network segmentation, IAM policies, and encryption
- Leverage AI‑powered coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to develop and optimise automation scripts, PowerShell/Python code, and infrastructure‑as‑code templates
- Configure server monitoring alerts and thresholds; manage backup and recovery plans with Rubrik and daily monitoring checks
- Design and build servers’ architecture considering high availability and disaster recovery; carry out capacity planning and test backup and recovery plans
- Automate daily operational tasks; define and apply GPOs; control access permissions and privileges; manage Office 365 configurations
- Participate in an on‑call support rota to provide after‑hours and weekend coverage for critical infrastructure incidents; execute planned production changes outside of standard business hours
Technical Skills
- VMware vSphere ESXi 8+: host provisioning, command‑line administration, storage provisioning, Veeam; excellent understanding of virtual infrastructure linked to the physical environment
- Microsoft Windows Server 2019–2025: Active Directory, Entra ID, Print Servers, GPO, DNS/DHCP, user management, NTFS permissions, Rubrik, Veeam Backup Exec, Dell servers, RAID, security, internal/public key certification infrastructure, iSCSI SANs
- Experience configuring high‑performance / high‑availability SQL Servers in both virtual and physical environments
- Fully conversant with disaster recovery solutions; Zerto replication and failover experience
- AWS IaaS experience: EC2, VPC, EBS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch and related services; design and implementation of Azure and AWS cloud infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS)
- Experience operating in hybrid cloud environments spanning on‑premises data centres, AWS, and Azure (highly desirable)
- Infrastructure‑as‑code mindset: PowerShell/Python, Configuration Management (DSC, Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
- Citrix CCA or equivalent level experience; SolarWinds Orion configuration and monitoring; Azure cloud services management
- Management of backup and restore applications such as Veeam; troubleshooting and maintaining server hardware; escalation of hardware problems to manufacturers as required
Professional Qualifications
- Certified in one or more of the following: MCSA Windows Server 2016+, MCITP Enterprise Administrator, or MCITP Server Administrator
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator) are highly desirable
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot or Claude Code) is required

- 10+ years of professional experience in a financial services technical role
- Team player with excellent consultative and communication skills; proven ability to work effectively with management, staff, vendors, and consultants
- Ability to work independently to meet goals with minimal supervision; strong problem‑solving, prioritisation and time‑management skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, responding to critical requests calmly and efficiently; manage own workload effectively, balancing competing priorities and deadlines
- Proactive mindset towards infrastructure resilience, with a focus on continuous improvement of HA and DR capabilities
- Enthusiasm for adopting AI‑assisted development tools with a demonstrated ability to integrate them into daily infrastructure workflows to drive efficiency and innovation
- Commitment to a hybrid working model with a minimum of three days per week in the office, with flexibility to attend four or five days when required
