The Role
BTG Pactual is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to join its Technology team in London. Joining an established international team of professionals, the Infrastructure Specialist will be based in London, whilst operating in a global environment, maintaining regular communication with offices worldwide. The role is hands-on in nature and demands a strong technical grounding across corporate server infrastructure, VMware, Dell server hardware, and Pure storage, complemented by the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve complex issues effectively. A core component of the position is ownership of the firm's disaster recovery capability — from the design and implementation of DR solutions, including Zerto replication and failover, through to active participation in DR testing, the development and upkeep of runbooks, and the ongoing refinement of recovery procedures to ensure RTO and RPO targets are consistently met. The successful candidate will also bring demonstrable experience applying AI-powered tools to drive efficiency, whether in building automation scripts, developing infrastructure-as-code templates, or streamlining day-to-day operational workflows.
This is a temp to perm opportunity for an initial period of 12 months, on a Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) basis. Due to ongoing growth within our Technology Team, the intent will be for this position to transition into a permanent role upon the successful completion of the initial 12 month period, subject to performance and business requirements. This is currently a hybrid role requiring a minimum of three days per week in the London office. The successful candidate must have the flexibility to increase office attendance to four or five days per week when business needs, project demands, or critical incidents require on-site presence. As the company continues to evolve, office attendance expectations may be adjusted over time to align with business needs.
Role Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate infrastructure tasks across global environments, acting as an escalation point for complex technical issues.
- Liaise with stakeholders and technical teams across the business; manage vendor relationships and escalate hardware/software issues as required.
- Design and implement high-availability architectures across on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring minimal downtime and service continuity.
- Build VMware hosts; troubleshoot ESX host and SAN-related issues, and manage guest operating system provisioning.
- Administer Microsoft Windows Server environments (Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange, GPO, DNS/DHCP, Print Servers, NTFS permissions, iSCSI SANs).
- Plan, execute, and validate cloud migration projects, moving on-premises workloads to AWS with minimal disruption; design and manage hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises, AWS, and Azure.
- Implement and maintain AWS security best practices, including network segmentation, IAM policies, and encryption.
- Leverage AI-powered coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to develop and optimise automation scripts, PowerShell/Python code, and infrastructure-as-code templates; use AI tools to accelerate troubleshooting and streamline routine operations.
- Configure server monitoring alerts and thresholds; configure and monitor VM backups on Rubrik; execute daily monitoring checks and ensure storage/backup procedures function correctly.
- Design and build servers’ architecture considering High Availability and DR; carry out capacity planning; develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans.
- Automate daily operational tasks; define and apply GPOs; control access permissions and privileges; manage Office 365 configurations.
- Participate in an on-call support rota to provide after-hours and weekend coverage for critical infrastructure incidents; execute planned production environment changes outside of standard business hours.
