As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our Building Consultancy and Sustainability teams and are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Building Services Engineer to support the delivery of engineering, refurbishment, decarbonisation, and building improvement projects across the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced M&E professional who is passionate about delivering innovative building services solutions, improving building performance, and supporting clients through complex property and infrastructure projects.

The Role

As a Senior M&E Building Services Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across a diverse range of building services projects, from feasibility and condition surveys through to design, specification, project delivery, and lifecycle planning.

Working closely with surveyors, project managers, sustainability consultants, and external contractors, you will play a key role in delivering practical, commercially viable, and energy-efficient solutions across public and private sector property portfolios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake inspections, surveys, and assessments of mechanical and electrical building services installations.
  • Evaluate the condition, compliance, and performance of existing M&E systems.
  • Produce technical reports, specifications, and recommendations for building improvements.
  • Develop engineering solutions that enhance building performance, occupant comfort, and operational efficiency.
  • Support refurbishment, maintenance, and capital improvement projects.
  • Mechanical Services

• Assess, design, and specify mechanical systems including

  • Heating systems
  • Ventilation systems
  • Air conditioning and cooling systems
  • Domestic water services
  • Heat pump technologies
  • Renewable heating systems
  • Carry out heat load calculations and system performance assessments.
  • Review system efficiency and identify opportunities for energy reduction and lifecycle improvements.

• Assess, design, and specify electrical systems including

  • EV charging infrastructure
  • Solar PV and renewable technologies
  • Conduct electrical condition assessments and compliance reviews.
  • Develop energy-efficient electrical solutions for refurbishment and new-build projects.
  • Project Delivery
  • Manage and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Prepare technical specifications, drawings, tender documentation, and reports.
  • Review contractor proposals and technical submissions.
  • Undertake site inspections and monitor project progress.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.
  • Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
  • Support multidisciplinary project teams across building consultancy and sustainability disciplines.
  • Ensure designs and recommendations align with current regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Assist with business development activities, client presentations, and proposal submissions.
  • What You'll Be Doing Day-to-Day
  • Conducting M&E condition surveys and technical inspections.
  • Producing engineering reports and asset lifecycle assessments.
  • Developing specifications for refurbishment and improvement projects.
  • Reviewing mechanical and electrical system performance.
  • Supporting decarbonisation and energy-efficiency strategies.
  • Attending client meetings and presenting technical recommendations.
  • Managing technical project delivery from concept through to completion.
  • Visiting client sites across the UK to undertake surveys and project inspections.
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical building solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience delivering M&E building services projects within consultancy, property, construction, or engineering environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems.
  • Experience undertaking technical surveys, inspections, and condition assessments.
  • Ability to prepare technical specifications, reports, and recommendations.
  • Understanding of current UK Building Regulations and relevant industry standards.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent report-writing and client-facing abilities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience working within education, healthcare, commercial, public sector, or large estate environments.

• Knowledge of low‑carbon technologies including

  • Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
  • Battery Storage
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
  • Experience supporting decarbonisation and sustainability projects.
  • Familiarity with CIBSE guidance and industry standards.

• Experience using design and modelling software such as

  • Auto CAD
  • Revit
  • IES VE
  • Design Builder
  • Amtech
  • Membership of CIBSE, IMech E, IET, or equivalent professional body.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
