BTE Plant Sales has been established for over 30 years, our head office is located in Leicester with other depots located in Leeds and Leyland. We work with premium construction machinery brands that are all leaders in their sectors and utilise cutting edge technologies for their innovative products. What\’s more, we have extensive experience working with plant and tool hire, house builders, ground workers, civil engineers, landscapers, utilities and many other sectors of the construction industry. We offer new and used plant sales and well as service, after sales and parts.
Role Overview
The Depot Manager will have overall responsibility for the Leeds depot, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across all functions including service, administration, and logistics. This role will also carry Group-wide responsibility for Health & Safety, developing and implementing policies and ensuring compliance across all three depots.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with excellent people management skills, strong commercial awareness, and a proven track record of operational excellence within a similar environment.
Key Responsibilities
Depot Management (Leeds)
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Leeds depot.
- Oversee service, administration, and parts departments to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Drive performance against KPIs, ensuring the depot meets financial and operational targets.
- Manage staffing levels, recruitment, training, and development of depot personnel.
- Ensure the depot is maintained to high standards of safety, organisation, and presentation.
Group Health & Safety Leadership
- Hold overall responsibility for Health & Safety across all three depots.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve H&S policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Conduct regular site visits (Leicester and Leyland) to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice.
- Act as the company\’s H&S lead, liaising with external regulators and auditors.
- Promote a strong culture of safety awareness and accountability at all levels.
Operational & Commercial Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior management to develop operational strategies and contribute to business growth.
- Ensure service delivery meets customer expectations in quality, timeliness, and value.
- Monitor budgets, costs, and profitability of the depot.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
- Act as a key point of contact for major customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven leadership experience in a depot, branch, or site management role (preferably within plant machinery, construction equipment, or a similar sector).
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation with demonstrable experience in implementing policies and procedures.
- Excellent people management skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and lead diverse teams.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen with experience managing budgets and KPIs.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Willingness to travel regularly between depots (Leeds, Leicester, Leyland).
Desirable:
- NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.
- Technical knowledge of plant machinery or related equipment.
- Experience in multi-site operational management.
