The Emergency Services Network (ESN) is a huge strategic priority for BT and our commitment to do the best for our customer and our country. ESN will be one of the most advanced Emergency Services Networks in the world. and BT is proud to the official supplier providing mission critical and trusted communications for Britain’s Emergency Services. The ESN will replace the existing Airwave network and building upon on EE’s existing 4G network and to provide essential new voice, data services, and critical communications services to 300,000 members of frontline emergency service users.
You will be key to transmission delivery for all ESN mobile technologies in the Radio Access Network. Working closely with the Senior Transmission manager and team you’ll be responsible for providing a key dependency that will allow us to remain at the forefront of 4G and able to provide the best possible experience for ESN. This is a strategic position with multiple areas of the business relying on our team to provide their backhaul solution. It’s not always easy, there will be bumps in the road but the benefits of delivering are there for all to see.
The successful candidate will be cleared to BPSS (or equivalent) as a minimum. You may even be required to undergo National Security Vetting (e.g. CTC, SC or NPPV).
What you’ll be doing

Work with peers, managers and other stakeholders to assess risks and mitigation of issues affecting cell site transmission and transport layer connectivity to ESN cell sites. Work with Operational and Design teams to assist in analysis, support and resolution of ESN related faults that may be caused by transmission issues

Analyse and identify resilient connectivity solutions that may be required to ensure ESN coverage availability targets can be met using an agreed set of design rules. Own processes designed to ensure continuous improvement for ESN products and services

Assist in network planning activities as directed to identify connectivity solutions appropriate for new-build ESN cell sites that are technically fit for purpose, future proofed and representative of the lowest possible TCO

Work with BT regulatory teams to respond to information requests from DMSL, Ofcom, Home Office, MBNL and other formal bodies. Duties to include gathering and review of information to be sent as part of BT’s formal response to such requests

Partner with key stakeholders to ensure accuracy of all records relating to ESN cell site connectivity (such as resilient connectivity, fibre, microwave, or satellite backhaul)

What we would like to see on your CV

Exposure to 5G, LTE, LTE-A, and other 3GPP architectures and the relevant transport requirements to support them

Experience in mobile/fixed telecommunications industry in a design or planning role with business-critical, high-availability systems and networks

Background in managing relationships with suppliers and third parties of product/feature selection and of delivering those products into a production environment. Good communication skills with the ability to broker agreement across teams and presenting & communicating technical information to both technical & non-technical personnel

Additional skills or experience in Optical Communications, Mircowave point to point radio, Satellite Transmission Services, Operational Support Systems, Network Management Systems and Data Engineering, would be beneficial
