Why This job matters
The BT Group Business Architecture team is part of the Strategy & Change (S&C) Unit led by the Chief S&C Officer, which in turn is part of the BT Group Corporate Units. One of the primary objectives of the Group S&C team is to accelerate and enhance the delivery of BT’s transformation. In support of this, the objectives of the Business Architecture team are to:
- Design and implement an end-state business architecture that supports BT Group’s ambition to be the leading UK telco and ensures that technology supports the business goals.
- Collaborate with leaders that own other elements of BT’s integrated architecture (e.g. application, data) and leaders of processes (e.g. sales, service) to define BT’s target state.
- Build BT’s transformation capability to accelerate the delivery of its transformation goals both within S&C and across its units.
- Accelerate progress in and recover transformation programmes with a high performing “consulting” SWAT team deployed to the biggest areas of opportunity.
The role works closely with the Group Business Architecture Director, Group colleagues, and unit transformation leads as a key contributor to building a high performing transformation capability in BT.
Key elements of the role include:
Transformation Capabilities
• Partnering with the Chief S&C Officer and Business Architecture Director on the strategic workforce plan for the transformation profession pan BT, ensuring that each individual unit’s transformation teams are the right size and shape and have the right capability to deliver BT’s Transformation.
• Undertake comprehensive capability needs analysis, both pan BT and in relation to specific transformation programmes.
• Develop and enable the delivery of strategies and interventions that ensure the BT Transformation community are suitably skilled to accelerate the transformation.
• Align the transformation learning strategy with the business strategy, with a strong understanding of the strategic skills needed to drive transformation in a matrix organisation.
• Collaborate with leaders and centres of excellence to identify the learning needs of the Transformation community. Deliver high impact, quality learning experiences and solutions to meet these learning needs utilising BT and external resources.
• Design the business case for learning support, including appropriate budgetary and supplier management, take accountability for delivering those results and introduce measures of success.
• Contribute to the building of a growth mindset and learning culture within BT transformation.
Ways of Working
• Setting delivery standards and methodologies and building organisation-wide capabilities around them; then work to embed the standards and ways of working leveraging the Transformation Profession.
• Incorporate both the latest innovative concepts and solutions and the best of BT in the standards and Ways of Working. Define Continuous Improvement and End-to-end process delivery method and tools.
• Partner with Unit leaders to build the Continuous Improvement and End-to-end process delivery capabilities.
Community of Practice
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring change readiness is established across the group, building a network of champions and ensuring a suite of appropriate toolkits are available across teams.
• Co-lead the Transformation Profession community of practice, supporting the building of succession plans, talent pipeline, capability build and colleague engagement across the BT Group and become a center of excellence for best practice.
Leadership
• Provide advice and coaching on skills and capabilities and best practice methodologies to the Transformation communities pan BT.
• Drive knowledge sharing on emerging trends and changes in transformation principles and practices.
• Partner on the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities to improve Transformation methodologies.

• Financial acumen with experience in budget management and tracking impact of interventions.
The experience you’ll have
• Experience of upskilling a workforce to deliver industry-leading results, ideally in the field of transformation and change.
• Experience of creatively designing and developing learning interventions which have tangible impact to colleagues and the organisation.
• Led the development and implementation of transformation delivery models applicable to enterprise-wide change, including Agile, Hybrid, Six Sigma and Lean.
• Good understanding of the technology and telco sectors, including current and emerging developments around Cloud, SaaS and AI/GenAI.
• Experience in coaching and mentoring others.
