Ensuring the inherent security in BT’s architecture and services expected by our customers, and constantly appraising the risk BT faces from the wider connected world, this role assures the protection of BT Group’s brands and reputation as the cyber threat evolves. This role is accountable for an area of security architectural strategy and associated evolution roadmaps for security capabilities, ensuring alignment with broader Architecture and leveraging cost optimisation through timely review of market capabilities and adoption of new capabilities in a timely fashion. The role works in collaboration with relevant teams to ensure alignment to the wider Digital/Network architecture and to be the security point of contact in wider architectural initiatives.
This role is hybrid (3 days a week in office) & can be based in one of the following: Birmingham/ Bristol/ London/ Manchester/ Glasgow/ Belfast.
What you’ll be doing:
- You will create, own, drive and support architecture for a defined domain or business area.
- You will be aligned to an architecture sub-domain.
- On behalf of a security domain or business area, you will own the day-to-day relationship with the security architects and on behalf of security architecture the relationship back into the business.
- You’ll experiment with technology – running trials, proofs of concept and even building minimum viable products to accelerate our journey.
- You will scout ahead on change in the industry, BT incubation and BT applied research and communicate your architectural assessment and insight.
- Work closely with the security leads across relevant areas to understand where technology can reduce risk, increase efficiency and improve their effectiveness.
- You will ensure our security architecture enables instead of conflicts with the wider business strategies.
- You will ensure alignment between external products that are sold/consumed, and products that are used internally.
Skills Required for the Role:

- Contribute, author, or maintain (as appropriate) and communicate a set of architecture artefacts:
- Standards & policies
- Guard rails
- Patterns and anti-patterns
- Guidance on choice (decision tree, cloud assessment, etc.)
- Principles
- Defining and maintain a set of architecture building blocks jointly with security architects
- Key solution building blocks, jointly with solution architects and/or security architects
- A joined-up cyber strategy and associated - frequently and regularly updated - strategic plan (roadmap)
- Aligning all your deliverables with the other enterprise & security architects
Experience Required for the Role:
- Experience as an Enterprise Architect for 5+ years, in a large organisation.
- You will have lead material business change through enterprise architecture.
- Recognised as an experienced technical expert within a technology area.
- Experience of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks, and their relevance to the practice of Enterprise Architecture.
- Qualified or equivalent demonstrable experience of CISSP, CISSM or similar.
- Experience with security architecture.
- Experience in running light-touch architecture governance processes in large organizations.
- A broad range of business, data, systems, and technology architecture experience.
- Strong experience of cyber security, ideally with operational / delivery / forensics / etc. experience.
- Experience of developing long term roadmaps linked to business outcomes.
- Strong commercial skills include supplier negotiation, cost optimisation.
- Experience of producing business cases, gaining approval from senior stakeholders, and ensuring delivery of business benefits.
