The Networks TV team is at the heart of innovation in BT & EE’s Consumer IPTV services, and the Media & Broadcast connectivity for content owners & broadcasters across the UK. We engineer capabilities that engage customers with exceptional experiences when watching TV at home, or on the move, and provide unbeatable reliable connectivity when it matters most to our B2B broadcast customers. This role leads on the strategy and implementation of our TV platform working with a dynamic group of software and network engineers who span both development and operations, with a customer-focused and pragmatic approach to delivery – adopting agility as a key principle for the role.
What you’ll be doing
- Operates as an SME within own field of expertise, guiding cloud system design activities and/or system designs to assure that solutions will exhibit expected levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, appropriate reusability and reliability upon deployment.
- Leads the automation of cloud infrastructure provisioning and configuration management, self-service, infrastructure-as-code services, auto scale initiatives, and DevOps deployment.
- Contributes to the architecture, development and implementation of software-based systems hosted in public cloud.
- Ensures compliance with security, IT policy and legislation across all TV OSS services built.
- Works with platform architects to make the right technology choices that provide platform solutions that meet the long-term roadmap of our business.
- Provides expert guidance on complex system architecture and recommends solutions in alignment with systems engineering best practices.
- Produces and follows agreed design and implementation methodologies and maintains documentation in line with the agreed working practices.
- Liaises with internal, external and third-party component suppliers.
- Supports all teams (internal and external) in understanding the design, build and operational impacts of cloud automation and CICD.
- Supports internal teams in the use of all custom tooling developed for service development and CICD implementation.
- Leads on cloud service and automation specific issues or incidents, proactively working to identify the root cause and propose solution(s) and providing appropriate design documentation to ensure lessons learned are taken up to minimise impact in any future incident.
- Ensures engineering practices and quality standards are maintained for internally developed services.
- Mentors and coaches experienced professionals to develop current and future team capabilities and ensure performance.
- Leads the implementation of continuous improvement opportunities to improve the cloud engineering team processes.
The skills you’ll need
- In-depth technical knowledge of and extensive experience in developing distributed application services.
- Experienced practitioner of software engineering, application and systems engineering.
- API design and implementation using OpenAPI specification language.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) design, implementation and maintenance.
- Big picture/Platform thinking and ability to see how parts interact with the whole.
- Knowledge of IT governance and operations.
- Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may need to understand.
- Ability to influence technology strategies to meet unit and business ambitions.
