Your role: As a Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and directly running the accurate, timely and compliant delivery of weekly and monthly payrolls. You will take ownership of the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining a high level of service to employees, managers and key stakeholders. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will lead the payroll function, execute payroll cycles, and ensure robust processes and controls are in place. You will ensure all payrolls are delivered in line with company policies, legislation and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Oversee starters, leavers, employee changes, overtime, bonuses, deductions and variable pay.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and within strict deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments, pensions and other payroll legislation.
  • Oversee payroll reconciliations, checks and controls and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage payroll queries and provide advice to employees, managers and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with HR and Finance to ensure accurate employee and payroll data.
  • Produce payroll reports and support audits when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure payroll information is managed securely.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • Significant experience managing end-to-end payroll within a complex or high-volume environment.
  • Experience managing payroll for both hourly and salaried employees.
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and workplace pensions.
  • Experience managing payroll systems and HR/time management systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong reconciliation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience managing and developing a team.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the confidence to work with employees and managers at all levels.
  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • HR experience is highly advantageous for this role, though not strictly required.
