We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join our Cardiff office. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical expertise across a diverse portfolio of projects while contributing to the continued growth of a well-established building services team.
The successful candidate will work on a variety of high-profile developments throughout South Wales and beyond, including student accommodation, education facilities, tall buildings, healthcare, emergency services, commercial, and public sector projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and play a key role in delivering innovative, sustainable, and compliant electrical building services solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Work as part of a design team delivering calculations, technical reports, performance specifications, and detailed electrical design solutions.
- Develop compliant electrical systems designs using industry-standard CAD and BIM (Revit) software.
- Undertake design calculations to demonstrate compliance with client requirements, regulations, and project specifications.
- Carry out site surveys, inspections, defect assessments, and witness testing activities.
- Review construction design details and provide technical feedback and recommendations.
- Liaise closely with architects, structural engineers, surveyors, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings, technical reviews, and client presentations as required.
- Ensure designs comply with current legislation, industry standards, and health and safety requirements.
- Support projects through all stages of design and construction, from concept through to completion.
- Contribute to the delivery of sustainable and energy-efficient building services solutions.
We are looking for a motivated and technically capable engineer with strong design experience and a collaborative approach to project delivery.
Essential Requirements- Degree-qualified in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or educated to HNC/HND level with relevant industry experience.
- Proven experience delivering electrical building services designs from concept through to completion.
- Experience producing calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation aligned with industry standards and project stages.
- Strong understanding of current building regulations, legislation, and electrical design principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience using Revit and BIM software.
- Experience with electrical design calculation software such as Amtech or equivalent.
- Knowledge of industry guidance including RIBA Plan of Work stages and BSRIA design frameworks.
- Working towards, or interested in pursuing, professional registration (EngTech, IEng, or CEng).
