This is a senior-level hire into a tight, growing team that values technical depth, collaborative problem-solving, and proper engineering discipline. • Develop low-carbon and energy-efficient electrical strategies aligned with current Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, and British Standards
  • Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors, and the wider design team on technical and commercial matters
  • Attend design team meetings, present design proposals, and represent the consultancy externally
  • Mentor and technically support junior and intermediate engineers within the team
  • Contribute to fee proposals, project programming, and resource planning
  • Carry out site inspections, condition surveys, and commissioning support as required
  • Uphold the consultancy's reputation for technical excellence and sustainability-led design

About You

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within a UK building services consultancy environment
  • Strong, demonstrable understanding of RIBA Stages 1 to 4, with particular depth in detail design (Stage 4)
  • Confident producing fully coordinated electrical designs including LV distribution, small power, lighting, fire alarm, containment, and life safety systems
  • Comfortable with industry-standard design software (Amtech, Dialux, AutoCAD, Revit)
  • Excellent communicator, comfortable client-facing and able to present design rationale clearly
  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of fee management and project delivery
  • Chartered or working towards chartership (IEng, CEng, MIET, MCIBSE) is desirable
  • Knowledge of low-carbon design principles and renewable technologies is highly advantageous
  • UK right to work
  • Local to Hertfordshire or within a sensible commute

You will thrive in this role if you want technical ownership, visibility on your work, and the chance to grow within a team that genuinely cares about engineering quality and sustainability.

Package
