We are seeking a motivated Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing Building Services team in Ascot. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or junior engineer looking to develop their career within a supportive and technically focused consultancy environment. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will assist in the design and delivery of electrical building services projects across a range of sectors, including commercial, residential, education, healthcare, hospitality, and mixed-use developments. You will gain exposure to all stages of the design process, from concept through to construction and project completion. The successful candidate will receive structured mentoring and ongoing support to develop their technical skills and work towards professional accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of electrical building services systems, including:
- Lighting and emergency lighting
- Small power installations
- Power distribution systems
- Fire alarm systems
- Security and access control systems
- Data and communication systems
- Renewable and sustainable technologies
- Produce and amend electrical design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Assist with electrical calculations, reports, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support the delivery of projects through RIBA Stages 2-5.
- Coordinate designs with mechanical engineers, architects, structural engineers, and external consultants.
- Attend site surveys, inspections, project meetings, and client meetings.
- Assist with reviewing contractor submissions and technical information.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant Building Regulations, British Standards, and project requirements.
- Support project delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.
Requirements
- Essential:
- Degree, HNC, or HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in electrical building services design.
- Good understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Desirable:
- Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Knowledge of Building Regulations and British Standards.
- Previous industry placement, internship, or relevant work experience.
- Understanding of sustainable building design and low-carbon technologies.
- Membership of, or desire to work towards, professional accreditation through CIBSE or IET.
