Our client is a London based building services engineering consultancy dedicated to delivering intelligent, purposeful design solutions for the built environment. They are currently seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to help lead and deliver exceptional building services designs across our portfolio.
The Role
This is a hands-on and technically focused role, where you will lead the electrical design on multiple projects. You will have responsibility for technical quality, client relationships, and mentoring junior engineers while contributing to the continued success and innovation of our practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design across multiple projects, ensuring compliance, innovation, and high standards.
- Deliver coordinated electrical systems designs including lighting, power distribution, fire alarms, containment, and data.
- Produce technical reports, specifications, drawings, and presentations.
- Work closely with mechanical engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to deliver integrated and sustainable solutions.
- Support, mentor, and review work of junior and intermediate engineers.
- Attend client meetings and represent the company in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
- Assist with fee proposals, project bids, and internal development initiatives.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, and technologies.
About You
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status (e.g., via CIBSE, IET).
- 5+ years of experience within a building services consultancy.
- Proven track record of leading electrical design across varied project types.
- Strong knowledge of sustainable design and low-energy systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in tools such as Amtech, Dialux/Relux, Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Commercially aware and comfortable with project and client management responsibilities.
