Our client is an established building services design consultancy based in Central London. Operating as a deliberately tight team, they have built a reputation for delivering quality over volume.

The mechanical desk is growing carefully, with a focus on hiring senior engineers who can run their own projects, lead client relationships, and shape the direction of the practice as it scales.

This is a senior-level hire for a mechanical engineer who has outgrown the cog-in-a-machine feel of a larger consultancy and wants visible impact on the design, the clients, and the business.

  • Lead the mechanical design on live projects from concept through to completion across all RIBA stages
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects, building and maintaining long-term relationships
  • Attend client meetings, present mechanical design solutions, and represent the consultancy externally with confidence and authority
  • Produce and review mechanical calculations, drawings, schematics, and specifications, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with current regulations and CIBSE guidance
  • Design and specify HVAC systems, heating, ventilation, cooling, public health, and renewable technologies including heat pumps and low carbon solutions
  • Manage project deliverables, timelines, and quality on behalf of the client, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded
  • Travel to European project sites approximately once per month to support delivery and client engagement
  • Liaise directly with architects, contractors, electrical engineers, and the wider design team on behalf of the client
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior mechanical engineers as the desk grows
  • Uphold the consultancy's reputation for technical excellence and client service at every stage of the project

Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer within a UK building services consultancy environment

Strong technical design capability across HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and public health systems

Working knowledge of current Building Regulations, CIBSE design guides, and relevant British Standards

Comfortable with mechanical design software such as Hevacomp, IES, or similar industry-standard tools

Confident client-facing communicator, able to lead meetings and present design rationale to non-technical stakeholders

Willing and able to travel to European project sites on a monthly basis

Exposure to sustainability and low carbon design, including heat pumps, decarbonisation strategies, and Passivhaus principles, is advantageous

You will thrive in this role if you want autonomy, technical ownership, and the chance to grow alongside a small team that values quality engineering, direct client engagement, and visible impact.
