We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Sheffield. The Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of electrical building services designs across all stages of a project lifecycle from concept through to completion. You will work closely with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality, efficient, and compliant design solutions. This role offers the chance to contribute to technically challenging projects while developing your expertise in modern design tools, sustainable engineering practices, and emerging technologies within the Building Services sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and specification of electrical building services systems including:
- Power distribution systems (LV design)
- Lighting design (including emergency lighting)
- Fire alarm and life safety systems
- Data/communications and security systems
- Produce detailed calculations, reports, and technical specifications
- Develop electrical designs from concept through to detailed design and construction stages
- Prepare and review drawings using AutoCAD and contribute to BIM models using Revit
- Attend and actively contribute to client, design team, and site meetings
- Carry out site inspections and monitor installation works to ensure compliance with design intent
- Coordinate with mechanical, public health, and other disciplines to deliver integrated design solutions
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and best practice (e.g. BS, IET Wiring Regulations)
- Support junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
- Stay up to date with industry developments, sustainable design approaches, and new technologies
About You
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 3 years experience within Building Services consultancy
- Strong technical knowledge across electrical building services design
- Experience working across multiple project stages, including client-facing responsibilities
- Proficient in AutoCAD, with working knowledge of Revit/BIM environments
- Good understanding of UK regulations and design standards
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Eligible for or able to obtain security clearance
