Role Overview
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for leading electrical design delivery, managing and mentoring junior staff, and undertaking project management and administrative duties. The role includes responsibility for monitoring design team costs in line with agreed programs and budgets.
This position suits an ambitious, self-motivated team player with experience in a consultancy environment, ideally where both technical design and team management responsibilities are required. The successful candidate will be capable of delivering electrical designs from concept through to completion, including specifications, drawings, schedules, and cost estimates, while maintaining strong client relationships and supporting internal team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and adhere to company policies and procedures
- Deliver electrical design and project management services across a range of project types
- Manage and support the electrical design team, providing technical guidance and leadership
- Liaise directly with clients and attend project meetings
- Support business development and help maintain and expand the client base
- Carry out site surveys and produce technical reports
- Undertake quality inspections and ensure design compliance
- Use approved software and tools in line with company procedures
- Monitor and manage the financial performance of projects
- Develop and maintain internal electrical design standards
- Mentor, train, and oversee junior engineers
Experience Required
- Strong knowledge of current Building Regulations
- Experience working within an engineering consultancy
- Experience working for a large contractor in a design capacity
- Project management of multi-disciplinary projects
- Production of detailed technical specifications
- Preparation of design calculations (manual and software-based)
- Production and review of drawings and design mark-ups
- Preparation of tender packages and tender analysis
- Development of budget cost estimates for building services
- Carrying out site surveys and on-site project management
