We are looking for an experienced and motivated Intermediate CAD MEP Technician to join our team in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid foundation in MEP CAD design who is looking to develop their technical skills, take on greater responsibility and contribute to a range of building services projects.
As an Intermediate CAD MEP Technician, you will support the design and delivery of mechanical, electrical and public health building services drawings across a variety of projects. Working alongside engineers, designers and project teams, you will produce accurate, coordinated CAD drawings and models while ensuring that designs meet project requirements, relevant standards and client expectations. The successful candidate will be technically capable, organised and confident working independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider design team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate 2D CAD drawings and MEP layouts for building services projects.
- Develop mechanical, electrical and public health drawings from engineering information, sketches and specifications.
- Assist engineers and senior technicians with the development and coordination of MEP designs.
- Produce plans, elevations, sections, schematics and detailed construction drawings.
- Coordinate MEP services with architectural and structural information.
- Identify and resolve clashes and drawing discrepancies.
- Update drawings in line with design changes and project requirements.
- Maintain drawing standards, layer conventions, file structures and revision control.
- Liaise with engineers, project managers, architects and other members of the design team.
- Assist with the preparation of drawing registers and other project documentation.
- Carry out drawing checks to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with project standards.
- Work to project deadlines while maintaining a high standard of technical output.
- Continue to develop knowledge of current MEP design practices, standards and software.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience working as an MEP CAD Technician, Building Services CAD Technician or similar role.
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Understanding of mechanical and/or electrical building services.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical information.
- Experience producing coordinated MEP drawings.
- Good understanding of drawing standards, scales, layouts and revision control.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:
- Experience with Revit MEP / BIM.
- Experience working within a consultancy, contractor or building services environment.
- Knowledge of UK building services design and construction practices.
- Understanding of relevant British Standards and industry guidance.
- Experience with Navisworks or other MEP coordination software.
- Relevant CAD, MEP, engineering or building services qualification.
